PlayStation 5 Pro Specs Leak Reveals Enhanced Performance

Specifications for the rumoured PlayStation 5 Pro have surfaced online, providing insights into the anticipated console’s capabilities. The leaked details, originating from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Developer Network and corroborated by sources including Insider Gaming and IGN, shed light on the upgraded hardware expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Key enhancements include a CPU with a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode,’ offering a 10% boost to 3.85GHz, and a significantly upgraded GPU capable of rendering faster and delivering higher quality ray tracing with 33.5 teraflops compared to the standard PS5’s 10.28 teraflops. Notably, the PS5 Pro’s CPU remains identical to the standard model but operates at a higher frequency for improved performance.

The PS5 Pro is also reported to feature innovative technologies such as PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling), custom machine learning architecture, and an AI accelerator, enhancing upscaling and antialiasing capabilities. Additionally, the console is said to offer a detachable disc drive and 1TB of storage space, providing flexibility and ample storage for gamers.

Analysts suggest that Sony’s decision to release the PS5 Pro is aimed at revitalizing interest in the PS5 ahead of the anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025. Similar to its strategy with the PS4 Pro, Sony aims to offer a “souped-up” refresh of its flagship console to maintain momentum and attract new players.

Sony’s revision of its PS5 sales forecast for the current financial year, coupled with its announcement of layoffs affecting over 900 staff at its gaming business, underscores the company’s efforts to navigate challenges in the gaming industry. Despite these setbacks, the rumored launch of the PS5 Pro signals Sony’s commitment to innovation and delivering cutting-edge gaming experiences to its audience.
