Blaauwklippen Wine Estate Spared Injuries Amidst Devastating Fire, Newmark Vows Restoration

No injuries during Blaauwklippen fire due to heroic efforts from staff and firefighters

South Africa; Cape Town, 8 April 2024 – It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Blaauwklippen Wine Estate was ravaged by a devastating fire this weekend. The fire burnt down the historic estate’s Manor House, Jonkershuis, and Cathedral.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of Blaauwklippen’s Disaster Management crew, staff, and local fire rescue services, all guests and staff were successfully evacuated, and no injuries were sustained.

“This is a devastating loss not only for Blaauwklippen Wine Estate but for South African heritage. Blaauwklippen is one of the oldest wine farms in Stellenbosch. Both the Jonkershuis and Manor House were beautiful examples of Cape Dutch architecture dating back to the 1700s,” said CEO of Newmark Hotels & Reserves, Neil Markovitz. Newmark Hotels & Reserves is Blaauwklippen’s hospitality management partner.

Markovitz added that Blaauwklippen’s owners had already made a firm commitment to rebuild and restore the Manor House and that Newmark’s operational teams would assist with this.

We apologize for the inconvenience to guests. Newmark’s reservations team is currently assisting affected guests with their bookings.
